Restoration of a leather binding

On this binding of a great bookbinder, one of the flats was detached, and the other had been poorly restored, and a new intervention was necessary. The sewing strings as well as the leather hinges and the interior hinges were broken. So I made the choice to dismantle the back and the covers, to reattach them to the book, and to make a new back cover, with inlay of the old back. The corners, edges and many details of the binding also required intervention.

All the restorations were carried out according to conservation standards and documented.
